We were called to a small semi detached house in Plymstock to create a ground floor rear extension that would improve the lives of the owners by increasing the usable space within the property.
This was an exciting project that required a number of site meetings to discuss the customers’ requirements before we obtained planning permission. Their main focus was to create a modern garden room that they could relax in all year round and would provide light and warmth through the living room and proposed garage conversion.
PLYMSTOCK EXTENSION PART 1.
The single storey 4 x 3 metre extension with semi mono pitched roof and light tunnel fitted perfectly into the rear garden. Concentrating on the customers’ requirement of light we used a large toughened glass wall facing the garden and created a bespoke sloped window along the light tunnel which flooded the room with light all day.
To provide warmth we used a traditional radiator, and at the customers’ request, an additional small infrared heater. This combined with the modern insulation in the walls, floor, ceiling and sloped roof would enable the extension to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer. A small complimentary patio provided by our apprentices Bailey and James gave a smooth access to the garden, and an additional space for the customers to sit and enjoy the sun.
The existing house electrics provided us with the type of challenge that PJB Building enjoys solving. The customers were so happy with our solution, and the quality of the new extension, that they requested that we refurbish their existing living room. Through the use of hardwood floor, lighting and subtle decorating we enabled the existing living space and new extension to seamlessly flow into one another.
This project was completed by the whole PJB Building team. We used precise planning to ensure that the entire team was on site from start to completion, even when the additional work was requested.
